Residents of a New Hope apartment building are hoping to return home today after they were forced out Thursday afternoon by a fire on the third floor.

No one was injured in the fire that broke out around 5:45 p.m. on the 4600 block of Independence Avenue N., said Scott Crandall, chief of the West Metro Fire and Rescue District, which serves Crystal and New Hope.

Crews from Golden Valley, Plymouth and Brooklyn Park joined West Metro in putting out the fire.

Officials were on the scene today assessing damage and trying to find out the cause.
