Finch food goes unwanted

It sits in the feeder, untouched

January 21, 2011 at 2:08AM

The seed I bought a couple of weeks ago, supposed to be a finch's favorite? Well, it's not. The combination of niger seed, millet, and sunflower chips sits untouched, six inches from an identical feeder filled with sunflower seed parts. The latter disappears on schedule. I said if this happened I'd save the finch food for spring sparrows. That's what I'm going to do. For the usual eaters at our backyard feeders we'll stay with black oil sunflower, hulled seeds or parts.
