Twenty-seven total points, 590 combined yards, 13 total punts and slew of yellow security guards to blockade the field.

The Metrodome was laid to rest on Sunday in a Vikings' 14-13 win over the Lions in the season finale. They finished the season 5-10-1. Here's five things to take away from the final game in the dome:

  • Cordarrelle Patterson broke a few franchise records to complete his rookie season. His 50-yard rushing touchdown was the longest for a wide receiver in franchise history. It was also Patterson's third rushing touchdown this season, surpassing Percy Harvin's single-season franchise record for rushing touchdowns by a wide receiver. Patterson also broke Buster Rhymes' single-season kickoff return yards record in the second half.
    • Defensive end Jared Allen also accomplished a few personal goals in the season finale. He recorded two sacks to give him his seventh consecutive season with a double-digit sack total. Allen finished the season with a team-high 11.5 sacks. Allen also passed Derrick Thomas and Rickey Jackson for 12th all-time in sacks (128.5).
      • The Vikings got a good look at some of their younger players in this game, led by tight end Chase Ford. He was the only healthy tight end after Rhett Ellison left the game with an ankle injury in the first quarter, but he was one of the more productive players in the game starting on the first drive. He finished with five catches for 43 yards. Running back Matt Asiata also had 14 carries for 115 yards filling in for Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart.
        • The energy level was sporadic in a meaningless game, but the fans were alive in the fourth quarter. To the chants of "Let's go Vikings," Marcus Sherels returned a punt 50 yards to the Lions' 8. Patterson scored on the second play of the drive from eight yards to give the Vikings a 14-13 lead with 9:22 left.
          • With the win, the Vikings have secured the eighth selection in the 2014 NFL Draft. They entered the game with a shot to select as high as third and as low as eighth. The remaining results don't matter now however with the win. Only four months until the draft…
