Chris Fields, a Republican running for Congress in Minnesota's Fifth District, collected $31,216 in campaign donations during the first 25 days of July, his campaign reports.

A former Marine, Fields won the Republican Party endorsement in April to challenge Democratic incumbent Keith Ellison. Fields now has $51,609 banked for his bid after attracting 955 new donors in July.

Ellison had almost $143,000 in the bank on June 30, the end of the last campaign finance reporting period. His staff has yet to release July fundraising numbers. The filing deadline is Thursday.
