This female Red-winged Blackbird was pretty obvious as it selected pieces of grass for construction of its nest. There was no watching actual construction, though. Blackbirds choose hidden sites deep in shoreline cattail growth. The nest is woven grass and other plant fibers attached to cattail stems. It usually is home to four chicks.
