Federal prosecutors have indicted four alleged members of a north Minneapolis gang in a gun and drug conspiracy that included the August killing of a rival gang member.
The charges, announced Thursday by the U.S. attorney's office, detail activities that span more than a year and document an ongoing war between members of the 1-9 Block Dipset, Tre Tre Crips and Young-N-Thuggin gangs.
Three alleged members of the 1-9 Block Dipset gang are in custody and awaiting court appearances, according to the U.S. attorney's office. Prosecutors redacted the name of a fourth defendant pending an arrest.
According to the indictment, rival gangs waged a struggle over territory for drug distribution and retaliated for prior bloodshed, including shooting deaths on both sides.
One of the men indicted, Hakeem Malik Dontae Flax, aka "Keem," was also accused of killing a rival Tre Tre Crips member in a north Minneapolis restaurant parking lot on Aug. 5. The murder is not included among federal charges against Flax, 31, of Vadnais Heights.
Flax, Brian Funtanous Mack, aka "B-Mack," and Domonick Deshay Wright, aka "Freaky," are each charged with multiple counts including conspiracy to possess a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
An attorney for Wright, 29, of Brooklyn Center, declined to comment. Mack, 32, of Minneapolis, and Flax did not have attorneys listed.
According to the charges, the men conspired to distribute heroin and had criminal histories that prohibited them from possessing firearms. Authorities recovered numerous weapons during an investigation that included the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Minneapolis Police Department.
