Favre files retirement papers

Quarterback Brett Favre has filed his retirement paperwork with the NFL

January 17, 2011 at 5:03PM

Brett Favre said multiple times this season that he was retiring for good after his 20th season. He has taken the necessary steps. For now.

The Star Tribune has confirmed that Favre has filed his retirement papers with the NFL. FOXSports.com first reported the story.

Favre, of course, has done this before but managed to unretire and play again after being reinstated by the league. However, Favre insisted several times that he would not do that again after suffering through numerous injuries and a disappointing season in 2010.

The news does not have any bearing on the Vikings because Favre is not under contract for next season and coach Leslie Frazier said at his press conference after formally being named head coach that there is no scenario in which he would call Favre and ask him to play next season.
