Father dead, 3 children badly hurt in crash near Hudson, Wis.

A motorist who ran a stop sign at an intersection near Hudson, Wis., was struck by a minivan and killed in a crash that also left his three children badly hurt, authorities said.

The crash occurred shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Tower Road and Old State Hwy. 35, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Killed was Scott Shoemaker, 38, of Black River Falls, Wis. His children, ages 12, 14 and 16, were taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with serious injuries, the patrol added. The van's driver, Jason Edwards, 42, of Hudson, was treated for minor injuries.

Shoemaker was driving his car west on Tower Road in Troy Township, when he failed to obey a stop sign and was hit by the van heading north on Old State Hwy. 35, the patrol said.
