New boutiques

This month saw the opening of two locally owned boutiques: Pursecution in Uptown and OPM in St. Louis Park. Pursecution sells unique handmade leather purses and accessories by local artisans, including owner Jackee Sandelands-Strom. (713 W. Franklin Av., Mpls. 612-871-2195.) Conversely, OPM sells high-end international lines that are hard to find in the Twin Cities, such as Yves Saint Laurent, Mulberry, Catherine Malandrino, Valentino and more. It's the kind of coveted merchandise that Minneapolis' high-end specialty stores have been sorely lacking. (3700 Grand Way, St. Louis Park. 952-567-7399.)

New at Target

Sigerson Morrison and Anya Hindmarch brought their high-style looks to the masses last week with their respective shoe and handbag collections for Target. SM's Kari Sigerson and Miranda Morrison offer '80s-inspired styles such as studded and textured booties, pumps and flats in metallics and suede ($29.99-$39.99), while the London-based Hindmarch incorporates patent and rich color into her satchels, shoulder bags and clutches ($19.99-$49.99). The latest GO! International designer collection by Jonathan Saunders has also hit Target, though it's met with mixed reviews -- some praise its bold color use and body-conscious cuts while others complain about the fit and fabrication ($14.99-$59.99).

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
