Miyagi Salon grand opening Minneapolis' newest Aveda Concept Salon -- and its only salon with a strict no-tipping policy -- officially opens Thursday in Northeast. Owner Mo Murphy, an Aveda stylist since 1994, transformed an 1890s-era building space with brightly painted walls and murals by Eric Inkala. Salon services, which currently include hair cutting and facial waxing, come with Aveda's stress-reducing scalp and shoulder massages, hot towel treatments and hand massages. The grand opening will have free hors d'oeuvres and drinks, plus prizes, complimentary consultations, 10 percent off Aveda products and music from DJ and collage musician Danny Sigelman. (4:30-9 p.m. Thu. Miyagi, 411 Hennepin Av. E., Mpls. 612-331-1912.)
Celebrity makeup artist in town
Want to get a pout like Posh? It's your chance this weekend when Stila Cosmetics' celebrity makeup artist Sarah Lucero is in town. She's booking appointments at Sephora's Mall of America location all day Friday, along with her team of national makeup artists from Stila, a brand known for its wearability, versatility and whimsical packaging. While you're in the chair, don't forget to pick her brain about makeup techniques that you can try yourself, and ask about her experiences working behind the scenes at New York Fashion Week. (11 a.m.-6 p.m. Fri. Sephora, Mall of America, Bloomington. 952-854-1517.)
