Mehera Shaw, a free-trade clothing company connected to India, opened last week in Uptown. The family-owned, eco-friendly design house and online clothing boutique specializes in fine cottons and artisan, hand-printed fashions.
The Minneapolis location is one of only two in the nation; the other is in Chapel Hill, N.C., where owners Shari and Mark Keller are based. All of the colorful, lightweight fabrics, are designed by Shari and produced in Jaipur, India, incorporate traditional printing and stitching techniques and are perfect for Minnesota summers.
The store also carries Indian stone jewelry designed by Mark, and is part of a growing trend of artisan-style businesses that develop high-quality products on a small scale and tailor them to local customer desires.

FILE -- A rent deposit slot at an apartment complex in Tucker, Ga., on July 21, 2020. As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
