Bodies of Water

Textile art and design is alive and well in the Twin Cities. Now for the first time, the Surface Design Association -- a group dedicated to the discipline -- is making its way to the Twin Cities for its annual international conference. Among the 40 artists to be showcased in a MNfashion-produced runway show is Carter Smith, who has been creating one-of-a-kind shibori fabric designs for more than 40 years.

Unraveled DIY Festival

In conjunction with the Surface Design Association conference, the Textile Center presents its first-ever Unraveled fest, with more than 50 local crafters, film screenings, live music, a fashion show, an outdoor gallery and the chance to try your hand at "yarn bombing" -- a type of street art that utilizes knitting instead of spray paint.
