"The future" as seen through the filter of sci-fi films of the '80s -- think "Tron," "Robocop" and "Blade Runner" -- is a huge influence on fashion this fall. Sharp angles, sleek silhouettes and smooth textures with metallic finishes are exemplary of this retro-futuristic look. Perhaps taking a cue from this trend, the hippest eyewear shop in town, Visionary, just restocked its vintage dead-stock frames, this time with a handful of '80s-era novelties ($129-$229). So if you can't pony up for that Balenciaga dress, you can at least afford some killer spectacles -- another trend that popped up on the runways this fall. If you don't wear glasses, the flexible staff can transform the frames into sunglasses by adding tinted lenses. (Visionary, 2906 1/2 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls., 612-822-3937.)

Ferociter 'virtual scavenger hunt'

Local jewelry and accessories line Ferociter is hosting a "virtual scavenger hunt" in honor of Fall Fashion Weekend, and the lucky winner will walk away with a necklace from the line's new Swoon Collection. The line consists of bold, unique accessories that merge graphic and Victorian inspiration for a thoroughly modern look. Vita.mn has exclusively obtained the first clue from Ferociter designer Aimie Dukes: "This location's namesake really knows how to sing the blues." Visit www.ferociterstyle.com through Saturday for additional clues.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
