Check out upcoming events at the Mill City, Minneapolis and Kingfield farmers markets

On Saturday, it's all about tomatoes at the Mill City Farmers Market, when vendors Karen Cross of Black Cat Natural Foods will demonstrate tomato recipes and Judy and Barry George of Heritage Gardens will discuss the ins and outs of heirloom tomatoes. 10 a.m. Also, stop by market's tasting booth (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and sample from a diverse selection of tomatoes, while supplies last.

Also on Saturday: At the Minneapolis Farmers Market, vendor Bonnie Dehn of Dehn's Garden will demonstrate recipes (and offering samples) using fresh vegetables and herbs. 10:30 a.m. Catch the live broadcast of AM 950's "Fresh & Local" radio show 8 to 9 a.m.), when hosts Bonnie Dehn and Susan Berkson interview Jerry Untiedt of Untiedt's Vegetable Farm.

On Sunday at the Kingfield Farmers Market, Stewart Woodman, chef/co-owner of Heidi's Minneapolis, will be demonstrating a recipe (and offering free samples) using fresh produce from the market. In addition, customers spending $20 at the market will be eligible for a free $20 gift certificate to the restaurant, limited to the first 50 eligible shoppers. Now that's a commitment to local foods. 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
