Although the calendar may not technically agree, Minnesotans know Memorial Weekend is the official kick off to summer across the "Land of 10,000 Lakes." This Saturday morning, FAN Outdoors radio, will mark the beginning of summer with a couple of special topics of conversation and guests.
Bass Opener
FAN Outdoors host, "The Captain" Bill Hildebrand, has waited for this day all winter and all spring. "You can have your walleyes," he's told me repeatedly as I've bottom bounced the lakes of the northeastern metro, "give me bucketmouths!" Well, Saturday marks the large and smallmouth bass opener in the state of Minnesota and "The Captain" will tell you exactly how to haul the biggest pigs through those lily pads and into your Ranger boat.
Rick Smith
Our first guest of the morning will be world-renowned bird dog trainer Rick Smith. Starting with his father, Delmar, the Smith family has been presenting bird dog seminars for nearly 40 years. Rick's dog training titles include three National Open Brittany Championships, seven U.S. Open Brittany Championships (a record), six International Brittany Championships, 25 Open Championships and more than 100 Open Brittany All-Age stakes. Rick will be conducting a seminar at High Fly'n Kennels in Elko on June 1, 2 & 3, so we'll spend some time talking to him about what the class entails, as well as what a bird dog owner and pup can learn through the process.
Dougherty's Rainy Lake Houseboats
Later this summer, "The Captain" and I will enjoy the luxury of our first houseboat adventure with our wives. Having never been on a houseboat before, I am thrilled about the prospective adventure. This Saturday morning, we'll talk to Billy Dougherty about Rainy Lake Houseboat trips; including, what to expect out of a houseboat trip, sleeping on a houseboat, how to drive a houseboat, and how to fish in your pajamas. Tune in to learn more about this uniquely Minnesotan adventure just a few hours away from your door. Enter for your chance to win through KFAN!
