Family weekend fun: 'Nordic Christmas,' superheroes and villains

NORDIC CHRISTMAS KICKOFF FAMILY DAY

The American Swedish Institute commences getting into the spirit of the season this weekend with the opening of "A Nordic Christmas: Myths, Legends & Fairytales." The display highlights the joyful and mischievous tales of tomte from Sweden, joulupuuki from Finland and other mythical holiday elves. Other rooms are decked out in Christmas finery from throughout Europe. Make a gingerbread heart ornament and listen to holiday stories. GOOD VS. BAD

Holy art museum, Batman! The Goldstein Museum of Design is doing an exhibit on superheroes and villains! This is a show that will entertain all ages with items that various generations can relate to. A survey of American culture from 1950-1980, the exhibit features toys, posters and models reflected in that era. View familiar characters that appear in today's media and movies with more than 300 original toys and artifacts. (Exhibit open through Jan. 3. Free. 1985 Buford Av., St. Paul. 612-624-7801.)
