Family weekend fun: Bastille Day, Open Eye at Family Art Sunday

BASTILLE DAY

French National or Bastille Day commemorates the beginning of the French Revolution. Alliance Française and the Dakota will celebrate the date with live music by Lo'Jo and the Francine Roche Trio. In Minneapolis, French restaurant Barbette hosts its annual Bastille Day block party with a local artists market. Music by PaviElle, Gramma's Boyfriend, Toki Wright & Big Cats and others. FAMILY ART SUNDAY

As part of its Driveway Tour, Open Eye Figure Theatre presents a puppet show, "The Adventures of Juan Bobo," at Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts. Inspired by Puerto Rican folk stories, the show combines music and puppetry. Also, puppet-making activities and a scavenger hunt in the galleries. (1-3 p.m. Sun. Free. A recent show was performed at the Mary Esch and Sid Smaka home in the West 7th Brewery neighborhood of St. Paul.
