Dia de Los Muertos

Midtown Global Market kicks off its weeklong celebration honoring deceased loved ones today. Guests are treated to food and drink tastings from local Mexican restaurants. There's also a traditional blessing with Aztec dancing. On Wednesday, kids are invited to decorate a skull mask and trick-or-treat through the market. Friday family night features live music and children's activities. Closing festivities Saturday include creating ofrendas (an altar remembering the dead) and tequila tasting for adults. Cooks Manny Gonzalez and Enrique Garcia square off in a live mole-making competition, and Milissa Silva-Diaz of El Burrito Mercado will give a pan de muertos demonstration. (Noon-3 p.m. today; 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wed.; 5-8 p.m. Fri.; 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sat. Free. Midtown Global Market, 920 E. Lake St., Mpls. 612-872-4041. www.mid townglobalmarket.org.)
