Failed electrical circuit probable cause in Duluth fire that killed 3

A failed electrical circuit in a wall is what probably ignited a fire in a Duluth home last month that killed three people, police said today.

The blaze, which occurred May 4 in an exterior kitchen wall of the first- floor apartment, has been ruled an accident and "the likely contributing factor [is] failure of an electrical circuit within the wall," police said in a news release.

Investigators had hoped but failed to determine what electrical loads were on the circuit before it apparently failed, police said.

Killed were Adrian Carter, 37, his girlfriend, Heather Johnson, 32, and Johnson's 4-year-old son, Kaiden.
