SHAKOPEE

Heads up! Here come ostriches and camels If you've ever wanted to watch jockeys racing on camels, ostriches and other unlikely creatures, circle Sunday on your calendar.

Canterbury Park's fourth-annual Extreme Race Day also will include strange horse races with unusual matchups, surfaces or distances. The park also will offer its usual Sunday family activities, including free pony rides for kids.

Joe Hedrick, who supplies the camels and ostriches, is a former rodeo clown who has been raising and showing exotic animal since the 1970s.

Those who might have been tempted to place a bet on Clyde the Camel or Daffy Ostrich, however, will be disappointed: There is no wagering on the ostrich and camel races.

Gates open at noon, with the first race at 1:30 p.m. The park is at 1100 Canterbury Road, Shakopee. For more information, call 952-445-7223 or visit www.canterburypark.com.
