A very hot, summery weekend is in store for much of Minnesota, as the National Weather Service warns of extreme heat and possible severe weather.

Temperatures on Saturday are forecast to push toward 90 degrees across most of central and southern Minnesota, and it’s going to get even hotter on Sunday. With humidity also high, by Sunday the heat index — how hot the air actually feels — is likely to exceed 100 degrees.

The National Weather Service advises anyone spending time outside to drink lots of water, apply sunscreen generously, wear lightweight and light-colored clothes, take breaks in the shade or indoors, and never leave kids or pets in unattended vehicles.

Severe storms could develop Sunday afternoon into evening in much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin, the National Weather Service said.
