Extreme Heat in India, Pakistan

What is normally the hottest four to six weeks of weather over the IndianSubcontinent as a whole is beginning in a most fitting way. On Monday,temperatures soared to between 110 and 115 degrees over southern Pakistan andnorthwestern through central India. One site in Pakistan, Nawabshah, evenobserved 118 degrees.Tuesday through at least Friday, daily highs of 110-115 degrees will bewidespread over northern and central India. In southern Pakistan, there will behighs of 115 to 120 degrees.

While the Subcontinent is renowned for the withering heat that alwaysprecedes the rainy summer monsoon, this bout of heat will be even more severethan average. The heat will stress populations unsheltered from the direct heatand sun.
