Extended Dry Spell for Midwest, East

The rain that was falling in eastern Massachusetts, eastern Connecticut andRhode Island early Wednesday pretty much tapered off to drizzle by afternoon. For the bulk of the day, the steadiest and heaviest rain was in New Hampshireand Maine. The storm responsible will be just south of Portland Wednesdayevening, then it will pull away across Atlantic Canada Thursday.

There is also a front that has to come through the Northeast during the next 24hours. That will keep things slightly unsettled, causing a shower here andthere, but nothing more than that is expected.

Following the front, a bushel basket of dry air has already been dumped on theMidwest, and the drier air will overspread the Northeast Wednesday andWednesday night. Furthermore, a large dome of high pressure will park itselfright over the mid-Atlantic region, which will prevent any rain for manydays.

Initially during the dry spell, temperatures will be on the comfortable side, but it will warm up quite a bit in most areas beginning Saturday.
