CARROLLTON, Ga. — The ex-wife of former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich has died in Atlanta at age 77.

Representatives from Almon Funeral Home in Carrollton, Ga., confirm the death of Jacqueline Gingrich. Her divorce from the Republican politician was final in 1981 and six months later, he married his second wife, Marianne. Their marriage ended in divorce in 2000.

An obituary on the funeral home's website says Jacqueline Gingrich was the oldest of four children, earned a mathematics degree from Auburn College and taught math at high schools in south Georgia. It says she died Wednesday, but the cause is unclear.

Questions about the divorces and infidelity have followed the former House speaker, including in 2011 when he was seeking the Republican nomination for president.

Jacqueline Gingrich is survived by two daughters and two grandchildren.
