Former Vikings head coach Brad Childress is being promoted to offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Childress, who coached the Vikings from 2006 until being fired midway through the 2010 season, will replace Doug Pederson, the new head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.
The news about Childress was reported by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
Childress spent the 2012 season as offensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns before being let go. He joined Kansas City, where he has been "spread game analyst/special projects coach" for the Chiefs. Much of his work has focused on helping the team prepare for upcoming opponents.
Kansas City won 11 straight games this season before being eliminated in the second round of the NFL playoffs on Saturday by New England.
Childress worked for Kansas City head coach Andy Reid when both were at Philadelphia. Childress was Reid's quarterbacks coach from 1999-2002 and offensive coordinator until he left to become head coach of the Vikings.
