Non-Muslim's guide to Ramadan meals:

• During Ramadan, Muslims fast from sunup to sundown, taking in no food or drink. Each day the fast is broken with a meal for family, community and socializing.

• Both men and women should wear clothing that covers their shoulders, upper arms and knees.

• There are often separate entrances to the prayer space for men and women. Women who want to observe prayer should cover their heads with scarves.

• Shoes must be removed before entering prayer space. Visitors should stand or sit quietly in the back until the prayer is completed.

• Muslims greet each other with the greeting "As-Salamu Alaykum," which means, "Peace be with you." The proper response is, "Walaykum Salaam," or "And to you."

• Some Muslims do not shake hands with people of the opposite sex.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
