An Elk River man who works as an administrative assistant at Osseo Junior High School was charged Friday with possessing and selling cocaine, authorities said.

John J. Daugherty, 59, was charged in Hennepin County District Court with second- and third-degree controlled substance crimes. Both charges are felonies.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office said its narcotics unit received a tip that Daugherty was selling cocaine, investigated the tip and arrested him Wednesday.

There is no indication that any students or anyone else in the school community was involved in the case, the Sheriff's Office said. Barb Olson, a spokeswoman for Osseo schools, said the district has not taken any action yet on Daugherty's job.

"At this point, we are following our process of investigation," she said.

The Sheriff's Office asked anyone with information to call 1-888-988-8477.
