"Empire" took home the top prize at the 31st Annual TCA Awards presentation Saturday night, winning Program of the Year.
Other winners of the night included AMC's "Breaking Bad" spinoff "Better Call Saul," which took home Outstanding New Program, as well as Jon Ham of "Mad Men," who won Individual Achievement in Drama, and Amy Schumer, who was named Individual Achievement in Comedy for "Inside Amy Schumer."
The event was held at the Beverly Hills Hilton hotel, hosted by James Corden, star of "The Late Late Show" and the big screen adaptation of "Into The Woods."
"This was truly a monumental year for television," said Scott D. Pierce, TCA President and TV critic for The Salt Lake Tribune, in a statement. "We said goodbye to some old favorites, with the final seasons of 'Mad Men' and 'Late Show with David Letterman,' and we were treated to strong new additions like Fox's 'Empire' and HBO's 'Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.' There were a lot of difficult choices to be made, but there's no doubt that the nominees and winners all deserve their accolades. I'm excited to see what the next year of television has in store."
The results were determined from votes cast by the TCA's membership, comprised of more than 220 professional TV critics and journalists from the United States and Canada. The winners represented an eclectic blend of shows and stars in 12 categories, putting the spotlight on the absolute best in comedy, drama, reality, miniseries, news, and youth programming.
