Republican Tom Emmer is bringing in Ben Golnik to manage his recount operations, the Minnesota Republican Party said Monday.

Golnik, who worked with Rep. Marty Seifert when he vied against Emmer during the convention fight, is a longtime Republican operative in Minnesota. Golnik worked on Minnesota Senate Republican's campaign efforts earlier this year.

Emmer's campaign manager Cullen Sheehan, who managed Republican Norm Coleman's recount operation in 2008, has returned to his Minnesota Senate job.

Last week, Democrat Mark Dayton announced his recount team, which, like Emmer's, involves those deeply steeped in partisan politics.

The party also announced Matt Kirkpatrick will be in charge of lawyer recruitment and Janet Beihoffer will be the director of volunteer recruitment.

While Dayton has done a series of media interviews and appeared before the press the Wednesday after Election Day, Emmer has yet to emerge publicly but for a brief print statement last week.

As of Monday morning, Dayton leads Emmer by 8,749 votes out of about 2.1 million cast. Those vote total are expected to fluctuate slightly as counties double check their results.
