EMILY's List endorsed Tarryl Clark on Tuesday in her bid to defeat two-term Republican U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann.

The endorsement is a big jolt of momentum heading into the new year, said Andrea Mokros, a Clark spokeswoman. Ellen R. Malcolm, president of EMILY's List, praised Clark's leadership and bipartisanship throughout her career. "As a state Senator, Tarryl spearheaded major bipartisan initiatives on a number of issues, including education, veterans' affairs, domestic violence, consumer protection, and affordable housing," Ellen R. Malcolm, president of EMILY's List, said in a statement. "Her strong reputation of getting things done for Minnesota families is what sets her apart from her opponents and has enabled her to be such a powerful voice for her constituents." Getting the nod from the organization, which supports Democratic female candidates, gives Clark access to the group's donors and campaign veterans. It claims to be the nation's largest financial resource for women candidates. "Tarryl is a proven vote-getter in what is traditionally rough territory for Democrats," Malcolm said of the 6th Congressional District, which includes far northern Twin Cities suburbs and St. Cloud. "Her candidacy puts this district in play and gives Democrats the best shot at picking up this swing-seat in November." Minnesota Republican Party Chairman Tony Sutton issued a statement after the announcement by the organization, which has been criticized for only endorsing women who support abortion rights. "Today's endorsement of Tarryl Clark by the far-left group EMILY's List is yet another indication that Clark is out of touch with the families of the 6th Congressional District," he said in the statement. "If Clark thinks her blatant disregard for human life will help her succeed on Election Day, she is greatly mistaken."
