'Prepared to do some big things' Elton Brand left behind all those power forward battles in the Western Conference for some new tough ones in the Atlantic Division.

Brand signed with the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday, the biggest move on the first day NBA deals could be completed. A power forward was the Sixers' biggest need in free agency, and they got perhaps the best one available.

"I'm prepared to do some big things this year," Brand said. "They were one of the best teams in the second half of the season last year. I've been following them for a while and I see myself fitting in on the court."

Brand's deal with the Sixers is believed to be for five years and $82 million.

In other free agent moves:

• The New York Knicks brought in a new point guard, signing Chris Duhon.

• The Sacramento Kings re-signed point guard Beno Udrih, keeping Mike Bibby's successor with a five-year deal. Udrih averaged 12.8 points and 4.3 assists last season.

• James Jones signed a five-year contract with the Miami Heat, one that will pay him $4 million next season and could be worth more than $23 million over the life of the deal.

• Center DeSagana Diop returned to the Dallas Mavericks, who traded him to New Jersey in the Jason Kidd deal. Diop signed a five-year, $31 million deal.

Jermaine O'Neal joins Raptors Jermaine O'Neal went from the Indiana Pacers to the Toronto Raptors in a deal that was agreed upon before last month's draft.

Toronto sent point guard T.J. Ford, center Rasho Nesterovic, forward Maceo Baston and the draft rights to center Roy Hibbert to the Pacers for O'Neal and the draft rights to forward Nathan Jawai.

Etc. • The New Orleans Hornets formally announced Chris Paul's contract extension. Citing team policies, the Hornets did not disclose terms of the deal.

• The Chicago Bulls held their No. 1 overall pick, Derrick Rose, out of Wednesday's summer league game in Orlando because of tendinitis in his right knee.

• Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogut will sign a five-year, $72.5 million extension later this week, his agent said.

• First-round draft pick Javale McGee signed a two-year, $2.4 million deal with the Washington Wizards.

• The New Jersey Nets announced the signing of second-round draft pick Chris Douglas-Roberts. Contract details were not disclosed. Douglas-Roberts, a 6-7 guard, helped lead Memphis to the NCAA title game in April.

• The Memphis Grizzlies signed Spanish center Marc Gasol, finishing off the last piece of a trade that sent his older brother, All-Star Pau, to the Lakers in February.
