July 27, 2009 at 5:55AM

Today marked the eleventh straight day of record-breaking heat in McAllen,Texas. In fact, the city has only had six days so far this month when a recordhigh was not either set or broken. The streak of record heat will not end onMonday. Sunshine will continue to bake all of South Texas, once again sendingtemperatures past the century mark. Showers and thunderstorms will rumble overNorth and East Texas, but the disturbances triggering this activity will notpress to the south.Rainfall would be welcome not only to end the record heat streak, but alsoto help ease the drought. The United States Drought Monitor reported lastThursday that most of South Texas continues to suffer from an extreme toexceptional drought. McAllen has only received 0.06 of an inch of rain so farthis month. That is well short of the 1.70 inches that typically falls eachJuly.
