Elderly Minnesota couple killed after car crosses centerline, hits semi

The crash occurred shortly after 3 p.m. Monday on Hwy. 9 near Ada in Norman County.

An 88-year-old couple were killed when their car strayed into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with a semitrailer truck, authorities said Tuesday.

The crash occurred shortly after 3 p.m. Monday on Hwy. 9 near Ada in northwestern Minnesota, the State Patrol said.

Killed were driver Carlton J. Roed and his wife, Hazel L. Roed, both from Mentor, about 50 miles northeast of the crash scene, the patrol said.

The truck driver, Larry E. Larson, 72, of Twin Valley, Minn., was uninjured.

Authorities have yet to detail the circumstances leading up to the crash.
