Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards won't attend the Vikings' mandatory minicamp this weekend, but he does plan to sign the one-year, $2.521 million tender offer he received from the team by next Tuesday, according to NFL sources.
Next Tuesday (June 15) is key because if the restricted free agent does not sign the offer by that date the Vikings could drop the tender to 110 percent of Edwards' 2009 base salary. That would mean he would make $1.1 million in 2010.
Sources said the Vikings have not informed Edwards that they would definitely reduce their offer but having that right per NFL rules is reason enough for the five-year veteran to sign on the dotted line. Although Edwards isn't happy with his situation and could end up leaving as a free agent after next season (depending on what happens with the CBA), at this point there are no indications the Vikings are attempting to shop him.
