Education Minnesota has named 132 teachers from all around the state as candidates for the 2017 Minnesota Teacher of the Year.
The 53rd Minnesota Teacher of the Year will be narrowed down from the list of 132 names and one lucky teacher will be chosen to receive the honor on May 7 at the Radisson Blu Mall of America. A selection committee comprised of 25 education, business and government leaders will hand pick a group of semifinalists and finalists.
Candidates included public and private school teachers.
Teachers can receive nominations from peers, students, school staff and parents. Requirements for eligible teachers include holding a bachelor's degree, a Minnesota teaching license, completed three years of teaching prior to the nomination deadline.
