Edina states case to be No. 1

Let the argument begin.Edina's victory over Eden Prairie on Friday should ensure the Hornets the top spot in the metro rankings. And they do get the nod, but it's not a slam dunk. As so many commenters pointed out, Totino-Grace beat Edina 15-12 on Sept. 7. Since the Eagles are still undefeated, don't they deserve the No. 1 spot?

It's a solid argument with no definitive right or wrong. Here's my reasoning: Rankings change each week, therefore, how a team is currently playing carries the most weight. In successive weeks, Edina has won at Hopkins, at Wayzata and at Eden Prairie, breaking a 49-game Eden Prairie home winning streak. I can't imagine a more impressive stretch of victories.
