If you give a hoot, an injured owl adopted by the Eden Prairie Outdoor Center finally has a name: Whisper.

Almost 200 people sent in their name suggestions via a post on the city's Facebook page last month. The city then narrowed the search to three names and asked people to vote for their favorite online.

"Whisper" won, with 305 votes. The name represents the nocturnal bird, known for its silent flight.

The name "Sage" wasn't far behind, with 282 votes. "Star" received 116 votes.

The announcement marked the end of a weekslong search for a name for the barred owl, which was found injured outside Chicago and acquired by the center in December.

Whisper is one of about two dozen animals at the education center, located in a refurbished cabin on the bank of Staring Lake.
