Eden Prairie officer shoots motorcyclist in 'accidental discharge' after chase

June 20, 2015 at 10:38PM

An Eden Prairie police officer shot a man who led him on an early Saturday morning chase along Eden Prairie Road, authorities said.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, which is investigating the incident, said the officer started a brief pursuit of a fleeing motorcycle around 3 a.m. A spokeswoman said investigators are looking into a report that the officer's gun accidentally discharged after the chase ended at Eden Prairie Road and North Lund Road.

The driver, described in dispatch audio as a 21-year-old man driving a motorcycle with Missouri plates, suffered an injury to his left arm. The sheriff's office said the man is in custody on a felony charge of fleeing an officer and that he is being treated at an area hospital.
