The couple found dead in an Eden Prairie apartment almost a week ago died in a domestic murder-suicide, authorities confirmed Friday.

Anitra Rochelle Williams, 26, was killed by her husband, Derrick Antoine Williams, 29, who then killed himself, the Hennepin County medical examiner said Friday.

Eden Prairie police said their last contact with the couple was a verbal domestic dispute in October 2009.

Neighbors said that the couple had two young children and that they had moved into the Eden Place apartment complex near Flying Cloud Drive a few months ago.

Last Saturday morning, neighbors said, they heard shouting, a gunshot and screaming from inside the second-floor apartment after what sounded like a heated argument around 3:30 a.m.

Police were called to the scene about 7 a.m., but they couldn't reach anyone inside. So they brought in SWAT teams and a bomb squad robot to investigate the potential standoff.

Dozens of residents in the three-story building were evacuated for more than five hours as six cities' police departments descended on the building.
