Eden Prairie continues plan for new pools

On Tuesday, Eden Prairie city leaders will get an update on a major $16.5 million pool renovation project.

Earlier this summer, the City Council approved a short-term contract with HGA Architects for $243,000 but will be asked Tuesday to expand it to have the company draft all design and bidding documents for a total of about $639,000. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 8080 Mitchell Road.

The city hopes to replace the community center's aging 30-year-old pool with a 12-lane lap swim pool with a diving area and climbing wall. A second recreation pool also could be added with a zero-depth entry area and water slide to meet growing demand for pool space.

After the designs are drafted by HGA, construction bids will open in March. The City Council then will decide whether to move forward with the project; if so, construction could start on the lap pool in the spring. The swimming club Team Foxjet is helping raise fund for the project.
