The eastbound lanes of Hwy. 212 at Pioneer Trail, which were closed for more than 3 hours Monday morning following a crash that left one person dead, reopened around 11 a.m.

Also, a westbound lane that had been closed reopened around 10:30 a.m.

A 34-year-old woman from Bloomington was killed when two vehicles collided in the eastbound lanes during the peak of the rush around 7:30 a.m., said Lt. Tiffani Schweigart of the State Patrol.

The victim's name has not been released.

Two men identified by the patrol as James Gildea, of Glencoe, Minn., and Ryan Miller, of Winstead, Minn., were injured.

Authorities shut down the eastbound lanes at Hwy. 41 and diverted motorists off the highway. One westbound lane was also closed to allow motorists stuck in the back up to make U-turns near the crash site.

Preliminary information indicates that at least one of the vehicles crossed the grassy median from the westbound lanes and collided with a vehicle in the eastbound lanes. It was not immediately clear which of the two vehicles came across, Schweigart said.

She said icy conditions were a factor in the crash.
