Earthquake Hits Central Mexico, Felt in Mexico City

The USGS said that a 5.6-magnitude earthquake rumbled in central Mexico onMonday with the center near Chilpancingo, about 130 miles southwest of MexicoCity or 50 miles from Acapulco. Two women died of heart attacks during orshortly after the quake.Four homes and a perimeter wall collapsed in and around the resort of Acapulco.

No serious injuries or deaths were reported in the area.

Tall buildings swayed in Mexico City as the quake was felt strongly in thenation's capital. Fortunately, no injuries or major damage occurred in thecity. The weather across Mexico City and adjacent areas was sunny and warm atthe time of the quake.
