They're smiling in Spain and laughing so hard they're crying in Brazil.

Someone in the Midwest gave a thumbs up while someone in California got a little weepy.

Silicon Feelings, a fun web app created by Bradley Griffith, shows popular emoji as they're tweeted on a spinning globe.

It's kind of mesmerizing in it's simple presentation. Also, a lot easier to look at than emojitracker, a nifty but overwhelming real-time look at all the emoji being used on Twitter.

Griffith explains that he used emojitracker to figure out which emoji are among the 400 most popular. Those characters show up as the world turns, drawn from tweets that include location data. It's not every emoji being tweeted -- and none of the accompanying text or Twitter usernames show up -- but a sampling of feelings at the moment.

The site was down earlier today.

But it's back up now and that makes me happy.
