I was attending a conference all day yesterday and one of the vendors was a company selling shares in a vegetable garden.
You've probably already heard of the concept of a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). At the beginning of the growing season, you purchase shares in the vegetable crop and then the produce is delivered to your company or a designated drop off spot and you get to enjoy fresh produce!
What a fantastic idea, and what a great way to support local farmers. Because I have my own little "vegetable farm" in my back yard, I already have enough to feed my family (with some left for the freezer). But for those with not-so-green thumbs or a shady lawn, it's fantastic.
As would have it, many gardeners gathered around the CSA's booth to discuss the apple dilemma and shared ideas about what to do about their peonies. But I'm happy to say that I was the only one with bragging rights to seeing the first true leaves of spinach. Yes, I planted spinach on St. Patrick 's Day in a little protected area of my garden.
