EAGLE, Wis. — A southeastern Wisconsin man was hit by a school bus as he tried to help a turtle cross the road.

Waukesha County sheriff's officials say after he picked up the turtle Monday, the 70-year-old man from Eagle didn't see the bus coming and stepped in front of it. The bus driver saw the man crossing Highway 59 and slowed down.

Witnesses say the bus was going about 15 mph when it struck the man. An ambulance took him to Waukesha Memorial Hospital, and he's expected to survive.

The bus was carrying 49 children, three teachers and two parents. No one on the bus was hurt.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (http://bit.ly/12fMPOE ) reports the turtle also survived.
