Eagan senior wants one last state tourney rush

One of Lucas Petersen's fondest high school memories came two years ago, playing in the boys' lacrosse state tournament.

The Eagan senior goalkeeper would like to conclude his career with one last stop at the same location. Here is a closer look at Petersen:

The best movie I've seen in the last year? As much as I love action-packed movies and every other genre, you can't go wrong with "Up" or "How To Train Your Dragon." They make me want to go back and just be a kid again.

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are ...? "Endless Summer" by Aaron Lewis; "Drunk On You" by Luke Bryan; and "Free" by Zac Brown Band.

Three words my friends or teammates might use to describe me? Not really sure on this one. Probably hardworking, outgoing and crazy.

How do you balance school and sports during the year? I have no clue, but most likely by losing sleep due to studying. I am a very busy student with more activities than just lacrosse, so I spend a lot of my time running from one activity to another before going home to eat a late dinner while I do my homework.

How did you get started playing lacrosse? I started playing box lacrosse in elementary school because of a neighbor that had a lacrosse stick I thought was cool. Thanks to a few great teams and teammates, my love for the sport grew.

What is your favorite meal before a game? It has always been a Subway sandwich, but this year I've started to really enjoy eating a pizza off the grill before I leave.

What did you work on in the offseason? As a goalie, seeing as many shots as possible is key for me, but also working on my strength and reaction time. The more I can make seeing the ball and making the save second nature, the more I can focus on leading the defense and having a strong voice on the field.

What is your goal for this season? This year's goal is to help my team make an appearance at the state tournament through hard work and leading by example. A personal award (i.e. all-conference or all-state) is another goal I have, but that is second to my goals for the team.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? This is tough. Either playing in the state tournament my sophomore year or playing Benilde-St. Margaret's this season. Both experiences were so great to be a part of, and the pace of the game in both cases gave me a rush I will never forget.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? Some of the attitudes surrounding the game. I strongly dislike when people worry about looking better more than playing hard and getting dirty, and I also hate when players partake in things they don't agree with just to fit in. Let the egos go and just play the game.
