Drinking water at Blue Mounds State Park in Luverne, Minn., continues to be off-limits because of the presence of E. coli bacteria.

"It's pretty rare that a camper arrives now without knowing. It took some time to get the word out," said park manager Chris Ingebretsen. "... We are actively working on a solution. The next step is to identify a funding source."

Ingebretsen said the state is looking at a few options to decontaminate the park's water, including building a treatment plant on site.

The park has been providing campers with gallons of drinking water. Supply to showers and sinks are off, but there are flush toilets. Also, campers may fill recreational vehicle freshwater tanks at fill stations in Luverne and Pipestone, according to the park's web page.

Blue Mounds is a popular rock climbing destination and home to a thriving bison herd.

Call the park office at 1-507-283-6050 for more information, or go online to dnr.state.mn.us.
