Elevated levels of E. coli bacteria have led Carver County officials to close the beach at Lake Minnewashta Regional Park in Chanhassen.
The county Parks and Recreation Department closed the beach Thursday, but the county has not had any reports of health problems related to the beach.
"The beach will remain closed until further notice and likely through the weekend," Parks Director Marty Walsh said in a statement. "We will resample the water after today's rain events but do not expect that we will receive the results until Monday, Aug. 8, at the earliest."
The Parks Department suspects the elevated levels could be a result of water temperature, animals or other environmental conditions.
An algae bloom has also closed the beach at Baylor Regional Park in Norwood Young America.
