Champion at last

Five times before Sunday, Dustin Johnson seemed headed to his first major victory. And five times before Sunday, Johnson squandered his opportunity. A look at Johnson's near-misses in majors:

2010 U.S. Open: Johnson took a three-stroke lead into the final round. But a triple-bogey, a double-bogey and two bogeys in his first seven holes led to a final-round 82 and a tie for eighth place.

2010 PGA Championship: A two-stroke penalty for grounding his club in a bunker on the final hole knocked Johnson out of a playoff. Johnson said he didn't realize he was in a bunker when he grounded the club.

2011 British Open: Johnson was sidelined by a double-bogey on the par-5 14th hole. He finished tied for second.

2015 U.S. Open: Johnson faced a 15-foot putt for eagle on the final hole that would have made him champion. A birdie would have put him in a playoff with Jordan Spieth. He three-putted.

2015 British Open: Johnson shot 65-69 to take the lead after two rounds. He shot 75-75 over the next two rounds and finished tied for 49th.
