Duluth woman set herself on fire, police say

A woman found burning near her car in Duluth last week apparently set the fire herself, police said Wednesday.

Jaclyn Arnold, 24, survived but is in critical condition and faces numerous surgeries due to extensive burns.

Duluth Deputy Police Chief Laura Marquardt said the department would not have any further comment "out of respect for the victim and her family, who are understandably going through a terrible time right now."

Arnold's family declined comment Wednesday, but her mother recently told WCCO-TV that her daughter was strong and had more life ahead of her.

"My little girl's not done," Laura Pleban told the television station. "I mean, she has so much more to give. She was just getting going."

A passerby reported seeing Arnold on fire near Lake Superior College's Fire Training Center, around 2 p.m. on Oct. 19. The witness extinguished the blaze and authorities were called.

A GoFundMe page has collected more than $20,000 to help pay for Arnold's medical care.

Marquardt said the investigation continues.
